Oh just lovely...BLITEOTW
Jun. 13th, 2007 08:05 pmI so wish I had my first car today. Well, ok, it was technically shared by me and
stoooooooo...and he drove it much more than I did. It was a 1976 Ford Granada - all steel. That car could make damn near any building into a drive through.
And it would have mowed down these bastards much better than my Mazda 626.
Being a non-essential federal facility, we were evacuated early. And being in college park, next to a golf course, we were relatively zombie free. Fortunately, in my car, I have several clubbing weapons that I immediately moved to the front seat.
The drive home was one of the strangest I have ever witnessed. The heavy rains made it much easier to ignore the fact that we were hitting the walking dead with our cars. The gore and detritus just washed off.
On my way, I got a call from
mousecat0 that the kids were still at school. I pulled into the parking lot to see a dozen or so corpses starting to surround the two officers assigned to the school.
Did you know that a 15 lb sledgehammer makes a very satisfying sound when it hits a zombie? Especially when you scream "DOOMHammer" at the top of your lungs as you throw it? In retrospect, it's probably a good thing I yelled out, otherwise, I might have been shot by accident. As it was, we managed to take them down one by one. I got the kids and I scrambled for home.
And so now, here I am, lights off, radio low, kids hidden in closets. In some respects, I wish I had not been such a safety nut when it comes to firearms; we might be safer now. I hope my parents are ok - they live not too far from a national cemetary, and heaven knows how many of those are gonna rise up. Oh gods, my aunt lives across the street from one.
It looks like we'll have to wait until morning, then maybe try to find help.
I have my swords. My axes. My mace. My knives. And a strong will to survive.
May the gods see us through the night.
