Yes, ladies and gents, due to
nagging popular demand, the Song Lyric of the Day (SLOTD) will be returning to my LiveJournal and FaceBook.
Now, for those of you who are scratching your heads and saying "Bwuh?", the SLOTD started around the beginning of the year as an offshoot of my occasionally posting song lyrics that caught my ear on Twitter, which people then attempted to guess. Earlier this year, I gave myself a set of rules and started posting them to both FB & LJ. Alas, life got in the way, and it fell by the wayside.
One thing I am still looking for is a list of top 40 hits by week from 1970 to present that is reasonably easy to navigate. Right now, I use
http://www.rockonthenet.com/archive/index.htm for 1980 to present, and the scans of the AT40 cue sheets for 1970-1979. I'd like to do this from one site. Any suggestions welcome
That aside, I've figured out a way to make it easier on myself, so I will restart the SLOTD on Monday, August 10th.
But I've modified the rules a little:
OK, so here are the guidelines I will attempt to do this by:
1: The Song Lyric of the Day (SLOTD) will be posted on weekdays (M-F) sometime before 0830 hrs. It will be posted to my Facebook account (via Twitter) and my LiveJournal at approximately the same time.
2: Answers should be submitted either by LiveJournal Comment, Twitter response, or response to my status on Facebook. Answers should include song title and artist.
3: The next morning, I will post the answer to the SLOTD to my Facebook account (via Twitter) and my LiveJournal at approximately the same time.
4: Songs will, as a rule, be from 1970 to present, and have been recognized as a "Top 40 hit" Exceptions will be made for Theme Weeks.
5: Answers submitted on LiveJournal will be kept hidden until the SLOTD answer is announced.
6: I will keep track of who has submitted correct answers, and update it on a weekly basis.
7: This is being done as a personal project, for fun. The observant will note that these times fall during work hours, and as such, work will sometimes take precedence.
8: Lyrics will be taken from
http://www.songmeanings.net/ . Any disputes will be settled by me. My decision is final. Please do not argue, for I am larger and louder than you. ;-)
OK, first one goes up Monday!
