Once again, it's that time of year, the time of year where we celebrate that most American of modern holidays: The Super Bowl (or, as my World History teacher, Mike Gould, called it, the Hyper Bowl).

(Side note: While I'm a big fan of tradition, I continue to maintain that the NFL needs to move the game to Saturday night so that people have Sunday to clean up and recover from the parties. )

Alas, my beloved Philadelphia Eagles will not be playing, but I'll still be watching. All I really hope for is a good game and a handful of humorous and/or innovative commercials. This year...I really don't know who will win. Nor do I have a favorite. Growing up an Eagles fan, it's hard for me to root for the Giants. And then...New England and three points, man. Not sure this is the best possible matchup for the NFL, but it's in the top three - two storied franchises with large and passionate national fan bases, rematch from a few years ago... Should make for good ratings.

This year, we'll be at home. We'll do the Pathfinder game in the afternoon, and have chili and sauce-your-own-wings for the game. If you wanna come by, you're welcome to do so, just lemme know.

In the meantime, here's a few polls for you to fill out if the mood so strikes you.

This year...I really don't know who will win. Nor do I have a favorite. Growing up in South Jersey, Pittsburgh was always the AFC team it was ok to root for, and I admit to a soft spot in my heart for the Packers (unless they're playing the Eagles, then they can all burn). I think that this is the "Dream Game" for the NFL - two storied franchises with large and passionate national fan bases. Should make for good ratings.

It's the Monday before Christmas, and the place is dead, and I'm bored.

So, here's some polls for you. Don't be Grinchy McScrooge and complain there's no "None of the Above" - go ahead and fill it out!

Alas, my beloved Philadelphia Eagles will not be playing, but I'll still be watching. All I really hope for is a good game and a handful of humorous and/or innovative commercials. I have to admit, I'd like to see the New Orleans Saints win this year, as they haven't done so before. Were I a betting man, however, my money would be on the Colts.

We're not 100% sure where we'll be this year. The current plan is to me at [livejournal.com profile] matt3485's for the annual "Kielbasa Cup Super Bowl Party", but weather may conspire against us - mainly because [livejournal.com profile] mousecat0 may be required to stay near DC for work purposes.

In the meantime, here's a few polls for you to fill out if the mood so strikes you.

Dungeons & Dragons Soda

Magic: The Gathering Soda

I'm tempted to buy both to do a taste report.

Vote early, vote often!
So, after some discussion amongst ourselves, we (that would be [livejournal.com profile] mousecat0, the kids & I) have decided to go ahead and revive our "Independence Day Suburban Charred Meat Festival".

We used to do that every year - and really, all it is is me cooking things on the grill, combined with good people and a bit of fun! Oh, and SchoolHouse Rock and maybe ID4.

Thing is, this year, the 4th falls on a Saturday, which means that a lot of people will have off on Friday, July 3rd as well (I know I will)

So, the poll then:

We'll be at home, keeping it low-key. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law may come over, but they will be there more for the company and the food than the game. Which is just fine with me.

But hey, here's a few polls for you to fill out if the mood so strikes you.

It so happens that every once in a while, I'd post a song lyric that caught my ear on Twitter. Either something that got caught in my head or perfectly captured how I felt or just seemed right.

So now it's kinda blossomed into a minor contest on Twitter and Facebook (Grayhawk & Frank N. Huminski, respectively, in case you care): I post a lyric and people try to come up with the song title and artist. People seem to be having fun with it.

It occurred to me this morning that perhaps you good people on LJ would enjoy this as well. So, I want to get your opinion!

A few things to keep in mind; ground rules, if you will.
  • Right now, I do this only on weekdays. I don't foresee that changing
  • As a general rule, songs chosen are from within my lifetime (1970 - present) and are ones that have been "hits". No "B" sides or obscure-assed tracks.
  • The exception to the above rule would happen during "Theme weeks". Examples might include musical theater, Christmas, Irish/Gaelic, etc. Ideas welcome below.
  • The lyric normally goes up between 0600 & 0630 (aka after I get to work and get coffee). I want to post the answer before I leave work. I want to give people a chance to answer, but don't want to leave it all day. I'm inclined to post answers around 1100 - 1200, but am looking for your input.

So, on with the questions!

So, yeah, today is the day of little to no work at work since the IT contractors are having their holiday potluck today and the gov't IT people are having their holiday party later.

So here I sit wearing my Grinch tie and Eagles Santa hat, and I'm moved by the spirit of the season.

So here's some polls for people to answer. I encourage you not to be a Scroogy-Grinchy Claus and have some fun filling them out.

Don't read anything into this yet. I'm just curious at the moment.

Where would you want to live?

Before answering that, take into consideration the following:
  • Cost of living
  • Job Market
  • Education/school system
  • Distance from family (those that you want to see)

[Poll #1183450]
Note: Although this may seem similar to events that have happened in my past, nothing detailed herein has happened to me. Fortunately.
