Howdy y'all.

So, not too much to report since last I posted. Which, I suppose, is the way that most of our lives go.

Took way too long to get home last night. Why? Because there was a OMG BIG ORANGE BALL OF BRIGHT ARMAGEDDON LIGHT COMING DOWN NEAR THE HORIZON THAT WILL SURELY DESTROY US ALL IF I KEEP DRIVING!

Have I mentioned lately that I hate DC Drivers? Really, I do. They suck. If it's not a dry overcast day, they freak the hell out.

But that wasn't what was really up my ass during the ride home last night.

By now, unless you've had the good fortune to be under a rock or something for the last 24 hours, you no doubt heard of the unfortunate and untimely death of 22 year old Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and 2 of his friends by an alleged drunk driver.

I do not question the sadness of this incident. Nor do I wish to make light of the pain and emptiness that his family, friends, and teammates/co-workers are experiencing. Truthfully, my heart goes out to them, and my prayers are with them.

(Yes, Annelle, I pray. There, I said it)

But goddamn, these talking heads on sports radio can't seem to talk about anything else! Especially about "How can his team mates go out and play?"

How about like the rest of us: We go to work and do our job.

In all fairness, I am not hearing any of his teammates complaining. They aren't saying anything of the sort. It's these mealy-mouthed empty suits who are wasting precious oxygen by braying on and on about it. Y'know what? Most places don't close down when an employee dies. Lord knows that the IT dept at NARA didn't when we lost my good friend Bob Watts last summer. Yes, the atmosphere was much more subdued. Yes, people were given the opportunity to go to the funeral. But the work still needed to be done, and people did it.

And it will be no different for his teammates and coworkers.

Today, they will put on their cleats, their hats, and their gloves and go out an do their job: play baseball.

So why is there all this fucking questioning of "How will they be able to go on?" ::Cue dramatic hand gestures:: Let these poor folks deal with this in the way they feel necessary and get on with their jobs! Good Goddamn! There's GOT to be some other news or something to report! Shut up about it already!

OK, i'm running out of steam. I'll talk to you later.

Remember: You woke up on the proper side of the grass this morning. By definition, that makes this a good day.

Peas. Out.
