So, yesterday, I posted this message about people dropping out of sight online.

Lemme explain.

Got a friend who, with no warning, notice, or explanation, decided to close her accounts on various "social" sites. For reasons unknown to Gods or men, mutual friends started asking me what happened to her. Not having a clue (either to why they were asking me or what happened), I sent an email to her, asking if everything was alright.

She was, and she had a good reason, but also apologized for making people worry.

I suppose my point in all this is that I don't expect people to comment on everything I write, either here, on Facebook, via Twitter, or anywhere else. I know *I* don't comment on everything, as I come from the twin schools of "Better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt" and "Don't talk for the sole purpose of hearing your own voice".

But I do at least skim, if not read, everything that passes across my screen. And I do tend to notice if someone has "gone bye-bye" with no reason or explanation.

And if I know/remember that there has been some heavy shit going down in your life recently, I will become concerned. And, as said yesterday, if I become concerned enough, I will come looking for you (virtually/electronically & physically if necessary) to make sure everything is OK.

And I might pick up mutual friends along the way.

And then it might end up as something similar to This.

Seriously, neither yesterday or today was directed at anybody in particular. All I ask is that you remember that if you decide to drop out of sight, whatever the reason, let people know what's going on. Believe it or not, even though we may never have met in person, I care what happens to you.

After all, if I didn't care, I'd have unfriended you already... ;-)
Wherein I ask what the proper term for a group of strippers is

Apparently, according to the book "An Exultation of Larks", the proper term is "A Titillation of Strippers".

Thanks to @beachlurk (on Twitter) for the information, and to all of you for your wonderful and witty suggestions

Personally, I preferred the term "Tease".

Most amusing response was from [livejournal.com profile] tenku_no_shiro who suggested "sorority" (via FaceBook)
Interesting take on my earlier poll. Yeah, I thought about making it multiple choice, then decided not to. In any case, my response to her was that since she didn't want to get involved, that she should probably delete it and forget about it.

Pleased to see that most of y'all ain't pervy enough to save them for yourself for later...

Anyway, enough about that.

Time for something resembling an update. I think that it shall be in convenient bullet-point format.
  • Me: I am doing...ok. The usual late winter/early spring depression seems to be gone, or at least beaten into submission. If I can be said to be having any problems right now, it's a lack of sleep. Too many extraordinarily vivid (and strange) dreams, which aren't allowing me to stay asleep. Strange like being in a NJ diner with [livejournal.com profile] tth, [livejournal.com profile] aylinn and [livejournal.com profile] gypsy_sylvin, sitting in a booth talking, then the ladies go off somewhere and [livejournal.com profile] tth and I go back to their apartment, located behind the diner, and we go up the exterior stairs and clamber over a short section of roof to get to their landing. Yeah.
  • [livejournal.com profile] mousecat0: She's still looking for a new job. It's not the best time to be job hunting. Otherwise in reasonably good health. Gets depressed sometimes over the job thing. I try to be supportive and smiley. Sometimes, it even helps.
  • Da kids: I'll have more of a report on this in a few hours. Report cards come home today. I anticipate good ones, especially since I know B. got an "A" on her big project this quarter. B is not as enthralled with violin as she was, still loves the chorus. I don't think we'll be continuing violin lessons next year, but we shall see.
  • Work: Work is work is work. Had a meeting with all engineers last week where they basically said "We think work is it's own reward! Expect to be rewarded twice as much in the coming months!" They keep calling it a "Dynamic Environment." What that translates to is that there are more changed minds and changed policies on a daily basis than Cher has wardrobe changes in a week of concerts. So, I spent last night updating online resumes at various sites.
  • Geek weekend: Spent the better part of Saturday at Games & Stuff in Glen Burnie for their Gary Gygax memorial day (which, I might add, they're doing again on April 26 from 12-8 pm; see this post for details.) It was a lot of fun; started off by playing in a run Against the Giants, then when enough people showed up (including [livejournal.com profile] webqatch and family), I broke off to run White Plume Mountain. They recovered 2 of the weapons (Wave & Whelm), but time ran out before they could rescue BlackRazor. After Sunday brunch with my mother-in-law, we sat down and watched Star Wars: A New Hope & Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. What a great weekend.
  • WoW: Franush, my dwarf Paladin has hit 70. Now, am working on my mage, Gunsnbutter to level him. He's only at about 53 or so. Got into a real good PUG for a Zul'Farrak run last week, cleared all quests with only 1 death. I'll run with those guys anytime.
  • Cons: Origins is still a bit iffy. A lot depends on whether or not [livejournal.com profile] mousecat0 gets a job by then. If she does...then she may not be able to go. And if she can't go, I have to seriously reevaluate whether or not I want to take B. Kinda playing it by ear for the moment.

And that's it for now.

Remember, if you woke up today, it's a good day. Somewhere, someone didn't wake up today.

Peas. Out.
Some of you may remember some time ago when Geno's Cheesesteaks in Philly was under fire because they had a sign up that read "This is America: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,'".

For those who don't recall this, please see this post from 2006.

Anyway, here's the followup:

'Speak English' Signs OK at Philly Shop
By PATRICK WALTERS, AP
Wed Mar 19, 7:38 PM EDT

PHILADELPHIA — The owner of a famous cheesesteak shop did not discriminate when he posted signs asking customers to speak English, a city panel ruled Wednesday.

I had no problems with the sign in 2006, and I have no problems with it today.

Now, before you decide to write some silly reply about how I'm racist, I encourage you to read the articles. Note that they claim that they have never refused service to someone because they couldn't speak English, and they have helped people to learn the menu and order in English (that's in one of the articles from 2006> Racist would be refusing them service and not helping them.

So congrats to Genos. Maybe I'll go have a small cheesesteak in celebration of this sudden outbreak of common sense.
Let it never be said that I will not post both sides of a story.

Let it never be said that if I air a grievance, and that issue is rectified, that I will not make that rectification public.

I received the following in my email this evening (in response to the email referenced in this entry):

Below is an answer to your support question regarding "^^Selective editing of Daily Popular Interest Report"

======================================================================

Thank you for contacting us about this matter.

We became aware of an issue which involved the most popular interests list over this past weekend. The list has been restored to the proper format today.

We apologize, and this will not happen again. It was never the intention to insult anyone or to make a judgment on the content of these interests.
