An moment of explication...
Jul. 22nd, 2004 01:43 amI want to take a moment to explain why I applied for the GAMA position, even though I've had problems with them in the past.
Ultimately, there are two reasons:
1: I *LOVE* gaming and the gaming industry. The sheer amount of creativity, imagination, and utter coolness has amazed me for years, and still does. Hell, after working theater and live shows professionally for 10 years, I don't get starstruck. Or so I thought. Then I met Ken Hite in the Exhibitor Hall at Origins, and completely geeked out. And here was a chance to work to help advance the gaming industry!
2: I truly believe that GAMA can be a powerful, positive force to help advance the gaming industry. It just seems sometimes that somewhere along the way, they lost sight of that goal. And now, here was a chance to work with them, and help put things back on the right track.
Upon reflection, it seems in a lot of ways that I was going to have been in the same position I was in at Kinetic Artistry: Working to restore the damaged reputation of what should be a great organization. Maybe it's just as well I didn't get the job, since, to quote my brother, "It may be for the best for (my) long term health, mental & physical."
They decided to go on without me. IMNSHO, that's their loss. Time to move on.
