Date: 2007-05-31 07:51 pm (UTC)as somebody pointed out in the sun's forum - the ONLY place this has appeared is the Sun.
OTOH, the Beeb is notorious for trying to kill the Dr.

Date: 2007-05-31 10:09 pm (UTC)They recently were caught out claiming that the new gal had already been fired, and the BBC brought out a statement that this was bollocks.
They are a trash rag, not unlike the ones we have over here, claiming that one celebrity is sleeping with another, etc...
As it's been said, this was only in the Sun, and they have a habit of doing stupid things to get readership.
I'd take it worth a grain of salt.
IE, It's not even true, and don't even think it is.

Even if Russell called it quits, the Beeb would more likely find someone else to helm it, because it is currently their most successful, award-winning, and popular show (excluding perennials like EastEnders and Coronation Street). It consistently gets high audience approval ratings, even in reruns, and it's been lucrative in sales in other markets (which isn't supposed to matter, but does).
What I *can* believe is that Russell may step back from writing so many episodes now that he's established things -- he's been pulling back a bit from that over the last two seasons anyway.
