Really, this sums it up beautifully:

With some users, you really wish you could just take the fork away from them because they really shouldn't be trusted to operate one, period.

and that's why my IT guys love me - I KNOW whatever is wrong is probably something I screwed up, and if they can tell me how not to do it again, I won't :)

I forwarded this to my IT WGH. Once we worked in the same building, and he was dismayed at the thought of doing tech support for me at home AND at work. I told him, "Honey, I'll be one of your best users; you know I'll reboot my computer at least 3X before I call you."

The hard part was the two times the network was down, and people would come into MY office asking ME when it would be back up. I had to show them my wedding ring and say, "It's not a radio transmitter."

Yes, but you already *have* your "+5 Armor of Cynicism", and your "Vorpal Sword of Withering Sarcasm".

I know this because you, too, are a veteran of the PMSD, where we don't help people, we service them (thanks, Janet!)

All too true, and I had completely forgotten about that quote. That just brought a smile to my face...

i don't know, man. the people where i worked were just not like that. the person who burned me out on ever working in IT again, was the netadmin. and the netadmin i worked under before that.
